With rock music essentially dead and more derivative by the day, what idiots would choose to still make it? Enter Big Jesus, a group of four Atlanta natives who haven’t put down the guitars they picked up as teenagers. Maybe they haven’t learned to do anything else? Maybe they’re masochistic, delusional psychopaths? There’s no way to know for sure, but what I do know is that they somehow just used guitars to make one hell of a song. It’s f***ing incredible… like... I mean… really, pretty damn good. Hot lick after hot lick. Melody, harmony, chops, bops, hooks, looks… they got it all. Which is why I’m giving them a 5 star review. They deserve it. They deserve awards. They deserve recognition. And most of all, they deserve money. I mean like a shit load of money.
“Nothing Like I Thought” is the first single to be released from their upcoming EP, “Not a Dreamer”, which is out October 19th. The video portrays the band as an alien rock outfit on their first intergalactic tour. The aliens soon find out that Earth isn’t all they thought it would be. Why? Because everyone’s too consumed with their cell phones to even notice that aliens are right in front of them trying to riff a lil bit. It’s like a really low budget episode of Black Mirror that was conceptualized and written by musicians who have never tried to make their own music video before. Just a guess…
It seems Big Jesus has gone totally DIY. The EP will be self released… mixing was handled by member, C.J. Ridings… the layout was handled by member, Spencer Ussery… and they’re even doing press on their own. Who the hell do you think is writing this?
